Fuel-Saving Tips
Tips from Yuriy Teleshchuk, service consultant at Hunters Garage:
You can significantly reduce fuel consumption by adjusting driving habits:
-
Reduce unnecessary weight. Remove unused child seats, racks, and heavy cargo. Extra weight and drag increase fuel use.
-
Keep Start-Stop active. Modern engines are designed for frequent restarts—turning off this feature doesn’t increase longevity.
-
Skip idling to warm up. Engines warm more efficiently under light driving.
-
Drive at a steady pace. Avoid frequent acceleration and braking to keep engine at optimal efficiency.
-
Maintain tire pressure. TPM systems may miss small leaks. Inflate to maximum load if carrying heavy cargo.
-
Manage cruising speed. Speeds above 100 km/h increase fuel usage steeply.
-
Avoid idling often. Maintain distance at traffic lights to minimize stop-start.
-
Use AC and heaters wisely. AC can consume 1 L of fuel per 100 km. Seat, window, and mirror heaters also draw power.
-
Use cruise control where it makes sense. On hilly terrain, manual throttle control may work better, using inertia to your advantage.
-
Manual transmission tip: use shift recommendations displayed in your vehicle to optimize gear changes.
