In Tesla, the braking principle is significantly different from that of conventional cars. Most of the deceleration is taken care of by recuperation — the electric motor slows down the car and returns energy back to the battery. This is effective, economical and convenient, but has service nuances.

Due to the rare use of mechanical brakes, characteristic features appear:

• brake pads and discs wear out much more slowly
• calipers can «sour» due to lack of regular movement
• guides and mechanisms need cleaning, especially after winter
• corrosion can appear even with low mileage

At the same time, the battery — not a monolithic unit, but a complex system of dozens or hundreds of cells, a cooling and control system.
